Modi Government cancels Registration of Greenpeace India

Putting the final nail in the coffin of Greenpeace India, the Modi Government has cancelled its registration with immediate effect. The Tamil Nadu Registrar of Societies has cancelled the registration, as the NGO was registered in that state. While the cancellation was done on Friday, order was issued on Wednesday.

In September, the government had blocked foreign funds for Greenpeace India, which is accused of working against the national interest and putting a stumbling block in the way of growth and development through agitation tactics.

Greenpeace India has called the decision as an assault on free speech in India and decided to challenge the order in the Madras High Court as early as possible.
