Proteas Choke, New Zealand storm into World Cup Final

NZ-SANew Zealand made their first appearance in World Cup final with four-wicket (D/L method) victory over South Africa in the first semifinal in Auckland. The Proteas chocked at the penultimate hurdle, while the hosts put up their best efforts when it mattered the most. The Black Caps will take on the winner of the second semifinal between India and Australia.

Earlier, South Africa posted 281/5 in 43 overs in the rain-hit semifinal match. Faf du Plessis (82), Rilee Rossouw (39), AB de Villiers (65*), David Miller (49) were the top scorers. Corey Anderson took three wickets, while Trent Boult took two wickets.

The target was revised to 298 in 43 overs. Although South Africa tried their best, but New Zealand batsmen held their nerves and achieved the target (299/6) in 42.5 overs. Martin Guptill (34), Brendon McCullum (59), Ross Taylor (30), Grant Elliott (84*) and Corey Anderson (58) were the top scorers. Grant Elliot played the anchor role and powered his team to a great victory. For South Africa, Morne Morkel took three wickets. Elliott was declared ‘Man of the Match’.

The South African players, including AB de Villiers burst into tears after New Zealand scored a sensational victory. There were celebrations across New Zealand. The Kiwis won all their games so far on home soil. However, they will have to travel to Melbourne to play the FINAL.
