ISRO launches India’s Largest Rocket GSLV Mark III

The Indian space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully launched India’s largest rocket GSLV Mark II, which can carry heavy satellites to the space. The rocket was launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the ISRO scientists at this achievement.

“Successful launch of GSLV Mk-III is yet another triumph of brilliance & hardwork of our scientists. Congrats to them for the efforts,” tweeted Modi.

The 630 tonne rocket is powered by liquid and solid fuel engines while the cryogenic stage/engine is a passive one. Soon after the launch, the human module splashed down 600 km from Port Blair in Andaman & Nicobar Islands and 1,600 km from the space centre. The capsule was recovered by Indian Coast Guard ship.

The GSLV Mark III rocket cost ISRO Rs 140 crore, while the crew module has taken another Rs 15 crore to build.
