Several Congress workers are reportedly injured in the standoff. The police have also taken many Congress leaders to Parliament Street police station.
Raising slogans of “Kisan Virodhi Narendra Modi” (farmers’ opponent Modi)’ against the Prime Minister, Congress launched a protest against the Bill. The foot march began on Friday from Bhatta-Parsaul village in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida district and reached Rajghat , New Delhi last night.
Senior party leaders like Jairam Ramesh, Ajay Maken, Ahmed Patel, Sachin Pilot and Raj Babbar were leading the protest march which began at Rajghat. Party volunteers from across the country have gathered at Jantar Mantar and began their march towards Parliament in protest against the Bill.
Congress has termed the Land Acquisition Bill as anti-farmer and said it would only profit anti-farmers. Addressing the gathering, Party leader Sachin Pilot said Narendra Modi led NDA government wants to bring development at the cost of farmers.
The Lok Sabha has recently passed the Land Acquisition Bill via a voice vote. As many as Nine amendments to the Bill have been adopted.
