1 Crore Consumers join the ‘GiveitUp’ Movement: Dharmendra Pradhan

Hon’ble Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Dharmendra Pradhan held a press conference to mark achievement of one crore consumers joining the ‘GiveItUp’ movement, which was started on the call given by Hon’ble Prime Minister on 27.03.2015 at Urja Sangam’ conclave.

Through the GiveItUp initiative the Government urged the well-off LPG consumers to voluntarily surrender their subsidy and through the subsidy saved the Government promised to give connection to such poor families having no LPG connection.

Hon’ble Minister shared the idea behind starting the GiveItUp’’ movement and thanked all individuals who volunteered to surrender their subsidy.  He thanked Hon’ble Prime Minister initiating the idea and carrying it forward as a ‘brand ambassador’ and also, the print and electronic media for their constructive and positive coverage of the initiative.

He highlighted that majority of GiveItUp consumers belongs to middle class families, pensioners, teachers, etc who were driven by an idea to help their needy fellow citizens. States of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have contributed nearly 50 % of the total numbers.

As promised, more than 60 lakh connections have been given to BPL families.The success of GiveItUp movement is testimony to the fact citizens are more than willing to surrender their subsidy when a transparent system is designed and put in place to link surrender of subsidy to every new connection given to the needy BPL families and to the fact that citizens have reposed their faith on the commitment of Hon’ble Prime minister to provide clean fuel solution to women belonging to poor families.
