Out of 198 wards that went to polls, BJP had won 100, Congress 76, JD(S) 14, Independents 8 in the recently concluded polls, where people had given the mandate. But, as the BBMP takes the votes of MPs, MLAs and MLCs into account, Congress-JD(S)-Independents joined hands to deny the BJP a victory in Bengaluru.
BN Manjunath Reddy of the Congress is the Mayor. Hemalatha Gopalaiah won the Deputy Mayor’s post. The Karnataka BJP has called it as a ‘murder of democracy’ and disrespect towards people’s mandate.
