Bengaluru: Congress joins hands with JD(S) to wrest BBMP from BJP

The Congress, JD(S) and Independents joined hands to capture Bengaluru City Corporation, which is known as Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). They won by a margin 131-128. Congress gets Mayor’s post. JD(S) gets Dy. Mayor’s post.

Out of 198 wards that went to polls, BJP had won 100, Congress 76, JD(S) 14, Independents 8 in the recently concluded polls, where people had given the mandate. But, as the BBMP takes the votes of MPs, MLAs and MLCs into account, Congress-JD(S)-Independents joined hands to deny the BJP a victory in Bengaluru.

BN Manjunath Reddy of the Congress is the Mayor. Hemalatha Gopalaiah won the Deputy Mayor’s post. The Karnataka BJP has called it as a ‘murder of democracy’ and disrespect towards people’s mandate.
