Monsoon Session: Congress declares War, BJP accepts Challenge

The all-party meet convened by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and attended by PM Modi among others, failed to break the ice between the government and opposition, as Congress leaders vowed not to let the House function unless External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan resign from their posts over Lalit Modi and Vyapam episodes.

On the other hand, the BJP has accepted the challenge and decided to go aggressive. Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu dismissed the allegations against the Ministers and said they did nothing wrong. “There is no question of any resignation. Nobody can give us any ultimatum. They can’t dictate their terms,” he said.

The Monsoon session of the Parliament will begin tomorrow. Many key bills on GST and Whistle-blowers are awaiting final approval. If this session is washed out, then key reforms will take a back seat.
