The 12-day-long ‘Godavari Pushkaram’, which began yesterday, turned bitter for some, as at least 12 people, including many women died in the stampede this morning during the ‘Maha Snan’. The stampede occurred at three ghats, according the reports.
Apart from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, people from across the country are taking the ‘holy dip’ at Godavari Pushkaram. About 3.5 to 4 crore people are expected to take part in the event. There are 263 bathing ghats in the East and West Godavari districts while Telangana has 106 such ghats.
