Ex-Union Minister & Senior Congress leader Gurudas Kamat dies at 63

ONI Bureau:  Former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Gurudas Kamat breathed his last in a private hospital in New Delhi following a massive heart attack on Wednesday. He was 63.

Reportedly, Kamat while having his morning tea at his New Delhi home, suddenly complained of severe chest pain.

A five-time MP from Mumbai North-East Lok Sabha constituency, Kamat served as Union Minister of State for Home Affairs during 2009 to 2011, but resigned in 2011, citing “personal reasons”.

In 2010, the Minister was nominated to represent former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at the UN International Conference on Federalism in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

In 2013, Kamat was appointed General Secretary All India Congress Committee and given charge of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu.
