40,000 Block Grant Teachers to Gherao Odisha Assembly on Aug 26

Bhubaneswar, Aug 22: More than 40,000 block grant teachers have been on strike since last 12 days demanding implementation of grant-in-aid orders of 1994. The association of block grant teachers threatened to gherao the Odisha assembly on August 26 if their demands are not met.

The teachers were on strike over various issues including implementation of grant-in policy of 1994, withdrawal of existing grant policy, grant to eligible schools and regularization of their salaries.  The association said that the teaches have been serving at schools for last 30 years. They alleged that state government was not safeguarding their interest.

Around 4000 block grant schools in the state were closed following strike called by the teachers. Around five lakh students of these schools were affected due to the strike called by the teachers.
