Chopper Row: BJD seeks arrest of Baijayant Panda, Abhijit

ONI Bureau:  Former Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda landed in trouble as BJD MLAs today staged dharna near the Gandhi statue inside Odisha Assembly premises seeking arrest of Jay Panda for unauthorised flying of chopper above the ‘No Flying Eco Sensitive Zone’ of Chilika lake.

Reportedly, the State Assembly today witnessed uproar over the derogatory remarks made by Abhijit Iyer Mitra, a journalist and a friend of Panda on the Sun Temple at Konark.

Reacting to chopper flying over Chilika, BJP leader KV Singhdeo said that the BJD should demand arrest of Chief Miister Naveen Patnaik for flying in the same zone last year.

Replying to the issue, CDA Chief Executive Susanta Nanda said that they would probe the incident involving CM’s chopper flying over Chilika a year ago. The CM’s Chopper was flying over Chilika Lake during inauguration of Swosti Chilika resort in July 2017.

BPI Airport Director SC Hota informed to media persons that ‘Jay Panda had taken permission with a proper flight plan. He started at 08:46 hrs from Bhubaneswar & landed back at 13:26 hrs.’

Meantime, Odisha Forest & Environment Minister Bijayshree Routray said, Chilika’s ecology has not been affected, it had only created panic among fishermen in the region.
