Demand grows to include Cuttack in PM’s Smart City Project

As the panel appointed by the state government put Bhubaneswar and Rourkela ahead of other cities in the PM’s ambitious Smart City project, people from all walks of life protest against the alleged apathy and demand the inclusion of Cuttack in the project immediately.

After politicians cutting across party lines supported Cuttack’s selection, the college students too hit the streets earlier. Now, the lawyers have joined the protests and alleged discrimination meted out to the city during the evaluation process.

All Bar Associations in Cuttack stopped work and took out a protest rally yesterday. They also submitted memorandums to the RDC (revenue divisional commissioner), district collector and member, Board of Revenue.

Although the state government has recommended the names of Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, Berhampur, Sambalpur and Cuttack, it is aware of the fact that only two cities will get the final nod. As Bhubaneswar and Rourkela scored highest points during the evaluation process, they may be selected in the project.
