Mission Indradhanush to begin in 10 Dist from April 7

Union government’s pan-India vaccination programme, Mission Indradhanush will begin in 10 selected districts of Odisha from April 7. These ten districts include, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nuapada, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Boudh, Kandhamal and Khurda.

Mission Indradhanush aims to immunize all children against seven vaccine preventable diseases namely diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and hepatitis.

The State Task Force chaired by Health Secretary Arati Ahuja rolled out a plan for extension of the programme to the nook and corner of the selected districts to attain total coverage of all children.

Every district will have one nodal officer to monitor the immunisation programme. District task force for immunisation, under leadership of District Magistrate will guide and monitor progress in blocks / urban bodies. District preparedness meeting, chaired by Chief Medical Officer/ Civil Surgeon to orient all block Medical Officer in charges on microplanning and reporting mechanisms will be done.

Block area task force for immunisation, under leadership of Block Development Officer will guide and monitor progress in blocks / urban local bodies. Training of frontline health workers, including ANMs, ASHAs and anganwadi workers will also be done.

The campaign activities will continue till July and would be conducted for seven days every month. In Odisha, the Mission Indradhanush will be continued till 2017.
