Naveen hailed for declaring Pt. Murmu’s Birthday as Holiday

Members of Santhal Community under the leadership of Sports Minister Sudam Marndi reached at Naveen Nivas on Thursday to thank Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for declaring the birthday of Santali poet Pandit Raghunath Murmu as an optional holiday.

CM Naveen Patnaik has directed the State Culture Department to celebrate the Birth Anniversary of Raghunath Murmu every year on May 5.

Pandit Murmu, the Ideologist, Playwright and Writer was the inventor of the “Ol Chiki” script used in Santali language.

Notably, Santhalis did not have a written language until the invention of “Ol Chiki” by Pandit Raghunath Murmu in 1925 .
