Odia Mountaineer Ganesh scales 5,642 Meter High Mount Elbrus

Bhubaneswar, Aug 4: Ganesh Chandra Jena became the second Odia mountaineer to scale Mount Elbrus. Indian Air Force – Squadron Leader Devidutta Panda is the first Odia to scale Mount Elbrus in the year 2010 and  fourth mountaineer to climb Mt. Everest.

Jena successfully scaled 5,642 meter High Mountain Mount Elbrus, which is located in Moscow in Russia on July 31. He reached the top and unfurled the nation flag with other six mountaineers from India.

Jena lead a six-member Indian team to climb the mountain and they reached at the top one day before the set time limit. Jena scaled Mount Everest on 18 May 2011 and participated in Everest Marathon held in 2013. Jena born in Sitapur in Paralakhemundi of Gajapati district.

Kalpana Dash, is first mountaineer from Odisha to scale Mount Everest on 21 May 2008. After Kalpana Dash, Ganesh Jena achieved this feat as the second Odia and the first male person from Odisha. Notably, Squadron Leader Devidutta Panda  had attempted to scale Mount Everest in the year 2005. But, he had to postponed it following death of a fellow mountaineer of his group.
