OPCC President Prasad Harichandan, addressing a press conference here today, said that the BJD government failed in tackling drought situation as a result many farmers were ended their life in Odisha.
Lampooning the BJD government for its busyness over the puja celebration and vacation, he said farmers in the state are in deep trouble due to cross loss, drought situation and debt. He alleged that state government is not paying any heed to the farmers’ plight.
“The state government should immediately declare Odisha drought affected. The state has received less rainfall due to weak monsoon this year,” he said.
“While the chief minister is in New Delhi, the agriculture secretary is on a foreign trip and the agriculture minister is spending his days in his farm-house. The state government is also on Dussehra holidays,” he said.
He said that the Congress leaders across the state will join the rally ‘Chasi Banchao’ on November 6 in all blocks. Harichandan informed media that, the second phase of ‘Jagaran Yatra’ will be organized on October 30 and 31. The first phase of the yatra was held on October 14 in Angul district.
Appealing to the farmers to deal with the drought situation with courage, he said the Congress has launched two helpline numbers for distressed farmers.
