Odisha Police arrest two for Hacking MNREGA Website

Odisha police have arrested two persons in connection with cybercrime case on today. Bolangir police arrested Dharmendra Thakur and Sujit Agarwal for hacking official website of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

According to police, Dharmendra Thakur was working as computer programmer at Belpada block and Sujit Agrawal is an employee of the Patnagarh branch of SBI. Additional SP of Bolangir B Jugal Kishore said that police have been investing further into the case and would likely to arrest more persons in this connection.

It was reported that, Dharmendra hacked the official website of MGNREGS (www.nrega.nic.in) and accessed the user ID – password of various departments’ accounts. He also opened 31 fake beneficiaries’ accounts at SBI Patnagarh. He also withdrew funds to the tune of Rs 5 lakh in the name of fake beneficiaries with the help of Sujit Agarwal at SBI bank.

Police nabbed the duo accused following working on a complaint filed by DFO Rashmi Ranjan Nayak and deputy director, Horticulture, Ranjan Dasmohapatra on Feb 7.
