Senior BJD Leader Sarat Paikray dies at 60

Senior BJD leader and former MLA of Jatni, Sarat Paikray breathed his last at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi last night. He was 60. Sarat Paikray was elected twice from Jatni in 1990 and 2004.

Born on 6th May, 1955 at Khudupur in Khordha district, Sarat Paikray started his journey from student politics and rose to the top. He was a member of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI). He was the Student Union President of KBDAV College, Nirakarpur.

Sarat Paikray had joined the erstwhile Janata Dal and was arrested under MISA during the 1975 Emergency. He was the General Secretary of the BJD and continued as the member of the BJD Parliamentary Affairs Committee from 1996 till death.
