Sindhu came behind at 16-19 to take the first game 21-19. But, Marin did not allow her to fight back in second and third game with her aggressive and wild power play.
Sindhu lost the match to a much better rival, who is not only the World No. 1, but also the World Champion of 2014 and 2015. This is India’s first Silver and second medal at Rio 2016. Earlier, Wrestler Sakshi Malik had won a Bronze medal for the country.
PM Modi congratulated Sindhu at her achievement. “Congrats for the Silver @Pvsindhu1. Very well fought. Your accomplishment at #Rio2016 is historic & will be remembered for years”, he tweeted.
“Great game played with grit ; Hearty congrats #PVSindhu on creating history by winning for India Olympic Silver medal. Proud moment for India, whole nation rejoices with your family and you”, tweeted President Pranab Mukherjee.
