PV Sindhu enters Badminton Final at Rio 2016; Medal Assured

PV Sindhu became the first Indian woman to reach the final of Badminton Singles at Olympics, as she defeated Nozomi Yokuhara of Japan 21-19, 21-10 in the semifinals at Rio 2016.

Sindhu has been assured a medal – India’s second at Rio Olympics. She will take on World No. 1 Carolina Marin of Spain in the final tomorrow. It would be interesting to see whether she wins a Gold or Silver.

Sindhu dominated Yokuhara in the second game. Both tied at 10-10 at one stage. But, the Indian played ruthlessly to collect 11 straight points to win the match.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sports Minister Vijay Goel congratulated Sindhu and wished her all the best for the final.

“Hearty congratulations #PVSindhu, well played, all the best for the finals #PresidentMukherjee”, tweeted President Pranab Mukherjee.
