The explosions occurred on Thursday evening when the market was crowded with people engaged in last-minute shopping on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, marking the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
One witness told BBC that many of the bodies he saw were of children. The cause of the blasts has not yet been determined. Local people blamed Nigeria’s Islamist terror group, Boko Haram for the attack.
Boko Haram has killed more than 13,000 people in violent attacks, carried out since 2009, across Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country. (IANS)
