Fodder Scam: Former Bihar CM Mishra sent to Jail

Jagannath MishraFormer Bihar Chief Minister and a convict in the multi crore fodder scam Jagannath Mishra was sent to Birsa Munda central jail in Ranchi on Thursday after he surrendered before the special CBI court on direction of Jharkhand High Court.

However, the Court directed the Jail administration to provide medical facilities to Dr. Mishra considering the arguments of his lawyers that he may be given adequate medical facilities for the various illnesses. Later, Dr. Mishra was admitted in the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, RIMS, Ranchi.

Dr. Mishra was sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment on October 3, 2013 after being convicted on September 30 that year by a special CBI court in the case pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37.7 crore from the Chaibasa Treasury in the 1990s.

Another former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and several other politicians, officials and fodder suppliers were also convicted for their involvements in the infamous fodder scam of Bihar.
