Mumbai, Sep 11: Under pressure, the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to reduce the meat ban period in Mumbai by two days. As the ban was already imposed on September 10, the meat shops will be closed for only one day on September 17.
Earlier, the decision was taken to ban sale of meat on September 10, 13, 17 and 18 in view of the Jain festival. The Bombay High Court had asked why there is a ban only on meat, and not on fish. The government replied that since fishes are not slaughtered, no ban is required on those.
