The District Administration in Cuttack, has decided to create six temporary ponds for idol immersion during this year’s Durga Puja in Cuttack. The Cuttack Collector appeared before the Orissa High Court in connection with a case related to water pollution caused by idol immersion in the rivers.
The District Administration told the HC that six temporary ponds will be created on rivers Mahanadi and Kathajodi. All idols will be immersed there. The remains of idols will be collected later and taken to dump yard.
All puja mandaps will be directed to immerse the idols only in temporary ponds and not in rivers.
