Bhubaneswar, Sep 7: The Central government once again turned down the request made by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for the waiver of charges towards deployment of Central Paramilitary Forces (CPMF) in Maists-hit areas in the state.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has rejected Odisha’s request for the waiver of CPMF deployment charges of Rs. 1500 crore in Maoist-hit areas in the state, in a response to the a letter written by Odisha Chief Minister to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Earlier, on 11 February 2015, the Home Minister had rejected the state government’s appeal for the waiver.
In the letter to Prime Minister on 1 September 2015, Home Ministers stated that it was not possible for the government to waive the charges of the CPMF deployment in Maoist-hit areas. He stated that special category states bear 10 per cent of the expenses incurred towards deployment of CPMF. And other states would bear the full expenses, he clarified.
It is noteworthy that, the chief minister had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the charges for the deployment of forces in the Moist-hit states like Odisha. He also highlighted that Left Wing Extremism was a national problem. The Odisha Chief Minister had also written letter to Union Home Ministry.
In February 2015, the Union Minister asked the state government to pay the bill of Rs 1450.29 crore towards the deployment charges of CRPF/RAF detachment upto 30 September 2014 in the state.
