CSMRS Team begins survey of Odisha’s Hirakud Dam

Bhubaneswar, Dec 8: A team of Central Soil and Material Research Station (CSMRS) has started survey of Hiarkud Dam near Burla in Sambalpur district on Monday, to ascertain present status of the dam. The three-member team under the leadership of Dr Alex Varghese, head of the department of Engineering Geophysics, reached at the spot and started the survey work.

As per reports, the survey will continue for a month and upon completion the team will submit a report to the Union Water Resources ministry, which directed the CSMRS for the survey of the dam.

The officials of the dam will be assisting the central team for the survey work. Official told media that the survey would be done by using underwater remote operated vehicles and underwater cameras would be used with these to scan the dam.

It is noteworthy that, a similar survey was done in the year 1990 by a team of expert divers under the Dam Rehabilitation Scheme.
