Gajapati, Dec 7: First case of farmer suicide was reported in Gajapati district on Saturday. As per reports, Chakradhar Paiko (25), of Namnagada village under Serango police jurisdiction committed suicide by hanging himself. He took such extreme step following crop loss and debt burden, his family members claimed. He is survived by wife Shivani Paiko, 4-month old baby girl and three brothers.
Father of the deceased farmer, Niranjan Paiko told SP Dr. Satyajit Naik that his went to Ramagiri village to drop his wife and daughter for health check up and back to home. He was alone at his home when incident occurred on Saturday. His parents went to fields and brothers were in Chennai.
When his father and mother came from work in the evening they saw his son was hanging. When the news reached to the villagers and to the Paralakhemundi Police department. S.P . Dr. Satyajit Nayak, Additional S.P. P.K.Jena, D.S.P J.N Hansada, Congress M.L.A K.surya Rao, Basanta Panda, Congress town President, Chandamani singh Serango I.I.C, Serango S.I.Pinky Kumari Murmu, Gumma Tashildar Gagadar Patra rushed to the spot for investigation. S.P.Dr.Satyajit Nayak said that the investigation will be going on, if the deceased person is a farmer or not, and as his father have alleged that he have taken 70,000 as a loan for the cultivation for 6 acres 73 cent land and will check if the crops have been loss due to scanty rainfall after the report the necessary benefit will be provided to the deceased peasant.
State Kishan Morcha Executive Board Member, Samsundar Panigrahi demanded the state and district Administration to provide 5 Lakhs ruppes to the deceased family under Jati Parimala Krushi Yojana, 10,000 from the District Administration fund and stipend to the widow of the deceased farmer.
