Murder convict sends threat letter to Odisha CM from Bilaspur Jail

ONI Bureau:  A Prisoner convicted in a murder case has sent a threat letter to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, demanding a price of Rs 50 crore.

The letter was sent by post and received by the Odisha Police on August 25.

The letter sender identified as Pushpendra Nath Chouhan (40) and an inmate of Bilaspur Central Jail in Chhattisgarh, serving jail term in dacoity and murder cases since 2009.

However, Bilaspur Superintendent of Police Arif Sheikh informed that the mental condition of the inmate is not well and he will be referred for medical examination.

Condemning the incident, Kendrapara MP Baijayant Panda tweeted, “I’ve been pressing for reforms in our criminal justice system, of which the jail system is a crucial bit. It’s well known that undertrials & even convicts freely operate criminal activities in the outside world from inside jail. This…Must…Be…Stopped.”
