Naveen announces Package for Jaundice-hit Sambalpur

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who visited jaundice-hit Sambalpur yesterday, has announced a special package of Rs 100 crore to revamp the underground water supply system in the region apart from granting another Rs 60 crore for reconstruction of 3 culverts.

Naveen had rushed to Sambalpur following the death of 17 people in jaundice outbreak in the region. Over 1,500 people have been affected by the water-borne disease. Chief secretary Gokul Chandra Pati and Health secretary Arati Ahuja accompanied Naveen Patnaik in his tour.

Apart from granting funds for underground water supply and reconstruction of three culverts, the CM also held a high-level meeting with Sambalpur collector Balwant Singh and other senior officials at the local RDC Conference Hall.

Naveen also directed the District Collector to ensure free diagnosis, proper treatment and medicines besides free distribution of halogen tablets and bleaching powder in the affected areas of Sambalpur. In addition, 50 community toilet blocks with 500 toilet seats will be set up in various localities of Sambalpur region.

The CM decided to set up an ultra-modern sewerage disposal/treatment project for Sambalpur soon. A state level team of health experts will be stationed in Sambalpur to monitor the situation and review progress.
