Odisha’s first Corn Silage Plant inaugurated in Nabarangpur

ONI Bureau: With an aim to boost the dairy industry in the State, first of its kind in Odisha, a corn silage plant, has been set-up in Nabarangpur district yesterday. The unit was inaugurated by the District Collector Ajeet Mishra in presence of several farmers on Monday.

As per report, the unit has the capacity to produce over 40, 000 metric tonnes of corn silage annually that can feed over 20, 000 cows daily for a year.

The idea came to Anant Basudev, a 31-year old Bhubaneswar-based entrepreneur, when he started his model dairy farm in Koraput in 2012.

Worth mentioning, Nabarangpur district is called as the as the biggest corn market of Odisha but due to lack of proper marketing and social cleavage between the settlers and the locals most of them are in distress.

Corn silage is a high-quality forage crop, which is used in many dairy farms across the world due to the high yield of digestible and ease of adapting it to mechanised harvesting and feeding.
