Woman dies for wrong Blood Transfusion at Keonjhar Hospital

Tension gripped at Keonjhar district headquarters hospital over the death of a woman due to transfusion of wrong blood to her on Tuesday night. The woman  was Sukanti Nayak of Puruna Bazaar, Keonjhar.

Reportedly, doctor instructed to bring a unit of O Positive blood from the Blood Bank. But Blood Bank officials have given an A Positive blood pouch which led to death of the patient.

In this connection, Family members sat on a dharna in the medical premises alleged negligence of doctors and staff nurse for the death of the patient.

They also lodged complaint against Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) and Assistant District Medical Officer (ADMO).

CDMO Kabindra Sahoo said two requisitions in the same name and miscommunication at the blood bank led to the unfortunate incident. The blood which was really meant for Gynaecology patient received by the patient from Medicine ward.
