In a major setback to pace department of Indian Cricket team, Ishant Sharma is unlikely to play the upcoming World Cup 2015. The lanky fast bowler cut a sorry figure during India’s practice session in Adelaide on Saturday, where he didn’t bowl a single delivery. Sources said, Ishant failed to prove his match fitness to the team management and will most probably be replaced by Mohit Sharma in the 15-member World Cup squad.
Ishant along with Rohit Sharma, Ravindra jadeja and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were expected to undergo the fitness test. It has been learnt that the players who pass the fitness test will be tested again in match situations next week before the mega event starts from February 14 in Australia and New Zealand. It is believed that Rohit would regain full fitness on time, but the status of Jadeja and Bhuvneswar is yet to be known. However, India have a backup in Dhawal Kulkani if Bhuvneshwar fails to pass the fitness test. India begin their World Cup campaign against arch rival Pakistan on February 15.
